Jake Leckie was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and began playing professionally at the age of 15. He studied with John Lockwood and Ken Cook.
Jake attended Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Michael Formanek at the Peabody Conservatory. He earned a BA in Anthropology with a concentration in Ethnomusicology, and has also earned an MA in Audio Science.
He continued his education at the Banff Center for the Arts, and with the McGill Baroque Orchestra in Montreal where h also studied with tango pianist, Victor Simon.
Jake has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists, orchestras, and bands. He has taught at the University level at Loyola University in Maryland, and the Recording Arts faculty of the Peabody Conservatory. He plays in and around New York and Los Angeles, and tours internationally.
In January 2019, Jake released his debut album, The Abode. Jake describes his album as a meditation on migration, understanding, and empathy.
